Overview

The Preteam program is for young swimmers developing their skills and working toward the Kingfish Team. It’s designed for those ready for more independence in the lap pool while building the technique and endurance needed to move up.

The season ends with Follies (see Calendar) when we celebrate their accomplishments and they can show off their new skills.

💦 Is This the Right Fit?
New swimmers should attend a tryout to determine whether Preteam is the right fit. Returning Preteam swimmers do not need to try out unless they would like to be evaluate to move up to Team.
Your swimmer should:
  • Be comfortable in the lap pool and able to separate from parents
  • Able to participate in a 30-minute practice
  • Swim approximately ¾ length of the pool without a kickboard
Swimmers who meet these benchmarks are ready to begin building the skills needed for future swim meet participation.

🏊 What to Expect
The goal of Preteam is to prepare swimmers to participate in swim meets once they have mastered the necessary skills.
Practice will focus on the following:
  • Freestyle and backstroke fundamentals
  • Pool entry skills, including diving
  • Growing confidence, endurance, and independence
Preteam swimmers do not compete in official meets, but they are welcome to participate in the fun kickboard race during intermission at Wednesday evening B Meets.
Move-ups to Team are generally finalized by the Friday before the last B Meet of the season, prior to SuperStars.
