Preteam Practice Schedule 2024
Preteam Practices are held:
5/28/24 -- 6/14/24: Monday - Friday 5:30-6pm
6/17/24 -- 7/14/24: Monday - Friday 11-11:30am AND Mon/Tues/Thurs 5:30-6pm
Preteam swimmers can attend morning, afternoon, or both practices as their schedule allows. Once swim meets begin, there will be no afternoon practices on Wednesday or Friday evenings.
Preteam season ends with the Follies on 7/12/24 from 5-6pm, which is a time to celebrate their accomplishments and show off their new skills.
PreTeam
Preteam swimmers must be comfortable being in the water in the lap pool, away from parents. Preteamers must have the endurance to participate in a 30-minute swim practice and swim approximately 3/4 length of the pool without a kickboard. Returning swimmers who were on Preteam last year do not need to try out again, unless they are trying out for the Team this year. Any swimmers who have not been on Preteam in the past or who wish to bump up from Little Kingfish will need to try-out (see Try-outs Tab).
The goal of the Preteam program is to prepare young swimmers to participate in a swim meet once they have acquired the necessary skills. Swimmers will be taught two of the four basic competitive strokes: freestyle and backstroke. They will also be taught how to dive into the pool.
Preteam swimmers do not compete in swim meets, with the exception of Wednesday evening "B" meets, where there is an informal "kick board race event" during the intermission for Preteam swimmers who wish to participate. Keep an eye out for instructions on how to sign up for this event.
Preteam parents are asked to volunteer at a minimum of one swim meet (about 4-5 hours) per summer.
