Overview
The Preteam program is designed for young swimmers who are developing their skills and working toward joining the full Kingfish swim team.
The season ends with Follies (see Calendar) when we celebrate their accomplishments and they can show off their new skills.
Who Can Join?
Preteam swimmers must:
- Be comfortable in the lap pool and able to separate from parents
- Have the endurance to participate in a 30-minute practice
- Be able to swim approximately ¾ length of the pool without a kickboard
- Returning Preteam swimmers from last year do not need to try out unless they are attempting to move up to the full team.
-
New swimmers (including those coming from Little Kingfish) must attend a tryout.
👉 See the Tryouts tab for more information.
What Will They Learn?
Preteam swimmers will work on:
- Basic swim skills with a focus on freestyle and backstroke
- Pool entry skills, including diving
The ultimate goal of the Preteam program is to prepare swimmers to participate in swim meets once they have mastered the necessary skills.

Do Preteamers Compete?
Preteam swimmers do not compete in official meets. However, there is a fun kickboard race held during the intermission of Wednesday evening "B" meets, which Preteamers are welcome to join!
Keep an eye out for sign-up details during the season.
Parent Volunteer Requirement
Each Preteam family is asked to volunteer at a minimum of one swim meet (about 4–5 hours) during the summer.
